The Next Level team have had a great start to the game season. Fishing the Mercury Bay Top Ten Tuna tournament on Skyline, Stacky and Bert bagged the winning Tuna, a solid 58.5kg big eye. It was a superb weekend of fishing and a productive tourny with plenty of Tuna weighed in and several XOS Blue Marlin hitting the scales.
The first striped marlin have hit the scales in Tairua over the last few weeks, most notably a 146kg striped caught in 300m wide of the pins in the boat Mindoro.
A predominant westerly flow over summer to date has kept the water cooler than usual for this time of year, and that has had an impact on the fishing to a certain degree but there's still been some good fishing for kingis, puka and snapper. The last trip wide of the Aldies saw some solid kingis to 22kg hit the decks with some tasty puka thrown in.
The cooler waters have meant the scallops are still in exceptional condition as well. For those chasing a feed of snapper, fishing the change of light has been the ticket to turning up a good feed.
We look forward to seeing what the next few weeks bring and the game season ramping up.
